Environmental impact assessment for Kotka wind power mills starts

The Kotkamills and VentusVis companies have joined forces in making an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for wind power mills planned for the Kotka area. Both companies have plans for four wind power mills – Kotkamills plans them on their mill site and VentusVis plans them for the Halla area in Kotka.

Practical issues of the assessment process, such as timetables, were agreed with Kaakkois-Suomen ELY-keskus (the Centre of Economic Development, Transport and Environment for Southeastern Finland) in November. The project group will invite several environmental and other local associations to participate the process.

The plan for the environmental impact assessment will be submitted to Kotka’s city committees and government in early March 2012. Prior to that, there will be an information sharing event for the public. The aim is to have the environmental impact assessment ready and available by the end of May 2012.

VentusVis Oy ( is a leading wind power development company. The firm is a joint venture between UPM-Kymmene Oyj and TuuliSaimaa Oy. UPM owns 90 percent of the company and TuuliSaimaa 10 percent.
